LITTLE ROCK-Heather Hare, a former Family Consumer Science teacher at Bryant High School, has been sentenced to an additional 13 years in federal prison for transporting a minor across state lines for unlawful sexual activity. This extends her initial 20-year sentence, bringing her total imprisonment to 33 years. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Lee P.

Rudofsky, highlighting the severe consequences of exploiting a position of trust to engage in sexual activities with a minor.

Hare, 33, from Conway, met the minor victim during their senior year and began an inappropriate relationship that involved counseling sessions and communication through Instagram and Snapchat. Their illicit encounters took place in various locations, including her home, vehicle, and even school premises. The situation escalated during a school trip to Washington, D.C., where Hare continued her unlawful activities with the student.

The case has deeply affected the Bryant community. Residents have expressed outrage and concern over the betrayal of trust by an educator. "It's devastating to see someone in a trusted position abuse their power like this," said a local parent. "We need stricter measures to ensure the safety of our children in schools."

The investigation, led by the FBI, Saline County Sheriff's Office, and Bryant Police Department, underscores the critical need for rigorous background checks and continuous monitoring of school staff. Special Agent Alicia D. Corder emphasized the FBl's commitment to protecting children and prosecuting those who exploit their positions of authority.

This incident has sparked a broader conversation about safeguarding students and the importance of comprehensive policies to prevent such occurrences. As schools nationwide grapple with similar issues, the case of Heather Hare serves as a stark reminder of the vigilance required to protect vulnerable students and maintain a secure educational environment.
